This chapter focuses on the images of the witnesses of the crimes: both 'in situ' (where the crimes were committed) and during later investigations and trials. It shows how the Soviet documentary authorities encouraged the cameramen to record the emotion of the witnesses, for the purpose of mobilization of domestic and international audiences. But it also demonstrates how, in several instances (especially in the early years of liberation, 1943-44), the genocidal antisemitic character of Nazi crimes were cut off during the editing of witnesses' statements.

Questo capitolo si concentra sulle immagini dei testimoni dei crimini: sia "in situ" (dove i crimini furono commessi) che durante le indagini e i processi successivi. Mostra come le autorità documentaristiche sovietiche incoraggiarono i cameraman a registrare l'emozione dei testimoni, allo scopo di mobilitare il pubblico nazionale e internazionale. Ma dimostra anche come, in diversi casi (specialmente nei primi anni della liberazione, 1943-44), il carattere genocida antisemita dei crimini nazisti fu tagliato durante il montaggio delle dichiarazioni dei testimoni.
