This chapter uses both institutional documents from RGALI (Moscow) on the Soviet Newsreels production in war and the private fund of one of the major cameramen on the Soviet front, and team leader Mark Troianovsky. Additional material were kindly provided by the artist's son, from Troianovsky's private archive. The chapter aims to show the constraints of filming war "at the front" - political, as well as esthetical and material. At the same time, thanks to rarely preserved documents, it shows the specific bonds connecting a team leader to his cameramen in war situation. Finally, the chapter also focuses on the principles inspiring a team leader who perceived his mission as not merely an informative or political one, but also historical. The study is followed by translations of selected documents from the archives.
