"Fondazione Feltrinelli and Their Collection of Soviet Posters: a Case Study"

After the centenary of the October Revolution (1917-2017), the issue of the protection of the cultural legacy of this pivotal event in world History has become even more critical. Arguably, the most popular heritage of the Revolution is the massive amount of propaganda posters that were created for ideological purposes during the Soviet Union. Nowadays, these posters are part of collections located not only in Russia, but also in the world, giving many students and researchers an easier access to the material. In this paper I present a case study connected to the collection Sandretti, part of which is now held in a larger collection preserved by Fondazione Feltrinelli. Giangiacomo Feltrinelli Editore is an Italian publishing house founded in 1955 by Giangiacomo Feltrinelli. However, before establishing the publishing house, he opened a homonymous library in Milan (1951), which was the core of what we know today as Fondazione Feltrinelli. This paper, based on my personal research experience and contact with Fondazione Feltrinelli that started in 2016 and is still continuing, describes the Soviet posters collection, its cultural and historical importance, as well as the current status of its cataloguing.
