This essay introduces to a critical approach to the Bauhaus movement through a productive interaction among different dimensions. The historical context of the period after World War I until the rise of Nazi Germany, the revolutionary paradox of the artistic creativity, the social and political claim, the ambiguities of the internal tensions within the School arise as fundamental elements for the comprehension and the relevance of Bauhaus in its 100th anniversary.
