One of the main problems that nowadays affect the town of Tuzla (third city of Bosnia and Herzegovina, after Sarajevo and Banja Luka, and the capital of the homonymous canton) is represented by the past intensive and indiscriminate exploitation of the underground salt deposits, that are still inducing subsidence deformation (“sinkhole”) below the urban area. Man- made subsidence has changed the setting and the function of the urban area and it caused destruction of the old historic urban core. The gravity of the problem forced to improve the monitoring and the management system with the use of the best available technologies (Geographic Informative Systems, remote sensing procedures, hydrological measures and models, etc...) and therefore, to maintain the monitoring efficiency for a significant time period, in order to support a suitable medium-long-term planning and management. http://www.demos.ba/participants.htm

Abstract
