The wide diffusion of the laparoscopic techniques in abdominal hernia repair has boosted the discussion about the prosthetic materials to be used in this surgery. The "ideal" prosthesis does not exist, and the use of prosthetic materials always induces, in a variable percentage due to the material used, the formation of adherences. The main conseguence is the increase of the postoperative late morbility, has the apparition of enterocutaneous fistulas or bowel occlusion. In our study we have investigated the reaction of the intraperitoneal organs to various prosthetic materials in rabbits, to indentify the material the more nearby to the "ideal" mesh, that is to say to find the mesh with less inflammatory reaction and less adherence formation.

Abstract
The wide diffusion of the laparoscopic techniques in abdominal hernia repair has boosted the discussion about the prosthetic materials to be used in this surgery. The "ideal" prosthesis does not exist, and the use of prosthetic materials always induces, in a variable percentage due to the material used, the formation of adherences. The main conseguence is the increase of the postoperative late morbility, has the apparition of enterocutaneous fistulas or bowel occlusion. In our study we have investigated the reaction of the intraperitoneal organs to various prosthetic materials in rabbits, to indentify the material the more nearby to the "ideal" mesh, that is to say to find the mesh with less inflammatory reaction and less adherence formation.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
