Methodology is arguably an area where Translation Process Research could be improved, and one of the aspects in need of attention is subject profiling. A characterization of informants' mental abilities and language skills is proposed by means of the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale (WAIS) and TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) sub-tests. Results of a study which tested 17 subjects who also translated four texts using Translog moderately supports that applying these tests may be useful for both filtering out 'irregular' subjects and for ranking 'regular' informants according to parameters relevant for TPR. Ways to simplify, shorten and standardize test administration are also discussed.

Abstract
Methodology is arguably an area where Translation Process Research could be improved, and one of the aspects in need of attention is subject profiling. A characterization of informants' mental abilities and language skills is proposed by means of the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale (WAIS) and TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) sub-tests. Results of a study which tested 17 subjects who also translated four texts using Translog moderately supports that applying these tests may be useful for both filtering out 'irregular' subjects and for ranking 'regular' informants according to parameters relevant for TPR. Ways to simplify, shorten and standardize test administration are also discussed.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
