The paper summarizes from an economic point of view the consequences of the introduction and of the discovery of counterfeited artworks. We develop an innovative approach based on econometric method that identifiy the development of the market in absence of the fakes discovery shock. We compare the predicted dynamics of the market in absence of shock with the actual perfomance, evaluating empirically the differences. We apply this methodology to the case of the Italian pop artist Franco Angeli.
