In this chapter, I reflect on the practices of activism considered as pathways of care and hence the term care-activism that I use throughout the paper. Practices of care-activism are lived and undertaken by social actors exposed to asbestos, and those who suffer from the consequences of that exposure. For these social actors, the experience of suffering represents the―bodily―condition of becoming engaged in various forms of activism. I refer to these social actors as sufferer-activists in the attempt to express the complex subjectivity of the women and men I encountered in my fieldwork, who were undeniably sufferers and victims as well as survivors and activists engaged in a struggle for social rights and environmental justice.

Abstract
In this chapter, I reflect on the practices of activism considered as pathways of care and hence the term care-activism that I use throughout the paper. Practices of care-activism are lived and undertaken by social actors exposed to asbestos, and those who suffer from the consequences of that exposure. For these social actors, the experience of suffering represents the―bodily―condition of becoming engaged in various forms of activism. I refer to these social actors as sufferer-activists in the attempt to express the complex subjectivity of the women and men I encountered in my fieldwork, who were undeniably sufferers and victims as well as survivors and activists engaged in a struggle for social rights and environmental justice.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
