EU-US COOPERATION PROGRAMME IN HIGHER EDUCATION AND VOCATIONAL TRAINING EXCELLENCE IN MOBILITY PROJECTS - 30 September 2008/1 October 2012 “Global Cities/Global Citizenship Social and Natural Transformations of Urban Areas in Europe and the USA” Partner Institutions: University of Bologna (EU Coordinator), University of Nottingham, University of Denver (US Coordinator), Portland State University Project Abstract The project will create a joint curriculum between partner institutions focused on the study of social and natural transformations of urban areas in Europe and in the United States. The objective is to promote greater awareness of the social and ecological challenges confronting contemporary cities in a time of rapidly expanding urbanization and escalating concerns about the sustainability of urban life. The project envisions the exchange of 48 undergraduate students and 20 teaching staff equally divided between European and American partner institutions (including the University of Bologna, University of Nottingham, University of Denver, and Portland State University). The project brings together students and scholars from the social sciences, natural sciences, and humanities to apply interdisciplinary methodologies to urban problems and to work towards sustainable urban futures.
