I have elucidated Gellius' linguistic skills as an etymologist by seeking to isolate those derivations he hit on for himself. Furthermore, or in other words, I have compared several etymological explanations given in the Noctes Atticae with the methods of modern linguistics: that allows a positive judgment about Gellius as etymologist.
