Professional manuals and other small books, along with portraits, were two important ways of defining and disseminating the image of printers in the twentieth century. The clandestine press, both during the Russian Revolution and the period of the French Resistence in the Second World War, made a significant contribution to the social and professional profile of printers, as shown by the pamphlet of the Bolshevik Mikhail Sergeyvich Kédrov (1932) and the photographic portraits produced by Robert Doisneau (1945).
