The East African Campaign (1914-1918): the Impact of Economic Constraints and Labour Mobilization on Anti-Colonial Protests

This chapter is an analysis of the economic participation of the people and resources of the East African colonies to the East African Campaign (1914-1918), and of the connection that this had to new forms of resistance and rebellion that developed in the East African territories after the end of the war. After a brief overview of the First World War in East Africa, the chapter explores the economic participation of the East African colonies to the war. The final part is an analysis of the social and political consequences of the war in the region.
