Percorsi fra le città dell'Asia. Presentazione dei casi di studio

The book contains researches on the cultural regions of Asia, such as Uzbekistan, India, China, Japan, and Malaysia. These countries emerged on the global scene in the last decades, for many reasons, ranging from demographic weight, multicultural articulation, natural and energy resources, rapid economic development that has led to the rise of new economies. The key to reading these regions are the urban spaces. It means that the book questions the origins and the development of some cities, as well as the historical patterns and events that have shaped their current forms and peculiarities. Besides, urban areas, are investigated because they ruled the contemporary challenges of economic development and globalization. In order to present the case studies of cities examined in the volume, the chapter highlights some ancient and new connections inside the Asian continent, in particular discussing trade routes called Silk Road and Spice Route, which were and are cultural paths too. It also provides a general overview of the times and patterns of urbanization that affected the areas covered by volume researches.
