The Rovigo Provincial Psychiatric Hospital is a structure of the early 20th century, abandoned since 1997. The theme of landscape play a significant role for this kind of buildings, as nature, working together with the architectural typology, had therapeutic purpose for mental illness. Architecture and nature are the two «matters in evolution» which structure this place. The relationship between these elements that gave shape to the complex (buildings, trees, gardens, paths) went modifying over time: a «controlled» nature with therapeutic purposes, which is possible to read in the archival documents of 1928, has lost today the limit which defined the relationship between architecture and nature. The design conceived in the first half of the 20th century had a deep evolution, the nature has gained ground, sometimes coming in adherence to architecture or even assaulting buildings. The intervention aims to explain some reflections about a changed relationship between architecture and nature, where nature is capable to build a new scenario for this place and its future re-use. The transformation of this place is a sign of its reconciliation with the history and the territory in which it is located, suggesting that the former Hospital is ready to be revealed to the city through its memory with new meanings.
Il tema della natura e del paesaggio assume nell'ex Ospedale Psichiatrico “Granzette” di Rovigo un ruolo significativo, in quanto mezzo terapeutico per la malattia mentale. Il rapporto tra gli elementi che costituiscono il complesso (edifici, giardini, percorsi) è andato modificandosi: da una natura controllata a scopo terapeutico, leggibile nei documenti del 1928, si assiste oggi alla scomparsa del limite che definiva il rapporto tra i padiglioni - l'architettura - e il paesaggio. Il disegno concepito nella prima metà del XX secolo ha subito una significativa evoluzione, il verde ha guadagnato terreno, ha reso vaghi i limiti che lo separavano dall'architettura, talvolta arrivando in aderenza o, addirittura, aggredendola. L’intervento tratta della trasformazione del mutato rapporto tra architettura e paesaggio, dove l'elemento naturale genera situazioni inedite, e di alcune riflessioni necessarie per un futuro progetto di conservazione del complesso.
