ITALY - UK PARTNERSHIP PROJECT. The call is available at the site http://www.britishcouncil.org/it/italy-science-partnership-programme-awards.htm. Theme of the project URBAN FLOOD RISK This collaborative proposal will bring together the groups in Bologna and Newcastle who have been working independently on complementary aspects of coastal processes and flooding. The Bologna group have considerable expertise in coastal monitoring whilst the Newcastle group have developed models of hydraulic flows in urban and coastal areas and also have expertise in flood risk analysis. The project aims to build upon these complementary capacities with the following objectives: 1 To establish a flood model of the study site and validate it against new observation data. 2 To make use of Italian coast monitoring facilities to conduct new analysis of coastal morphology and wave runup. 3 To exchange experiences of coastal flood risk analysis. The project will be organized in the following Work Packages: WP1. Data collection. WP2. Interpretation and use of new coastal monitoring data. WP3. Implementation and calibration of flood models and validation against field data. WP4 Flood Risk analysis. Expected results - Calibration and validation of numerical codes to predict beach run up and large-scale flood inundation. - Development and validation of image analysis tools for the coastal processes description - Exhaustive database of condition at the study sites - Knowledge transfer between the two research groups - Start up collaboration for national and europian founded projects.
