The main purpose of this paper is to explore the opportunities and limits of 2.0 tools, such as Wikipedia, for the development of lexical resources related to the artistic and cultural heritage. Since most of the information on cultural and artistic lexicon available in Wikipedia has been considered a useful resource for specialised translators, it seems necessary to see whether it may contribute to the creation and the implementation of multilingual databases of specialized vocabulary as well as to explore how research projects like Lessico dei Beni Culturali can enrich this resource. To illustrate these questions I present the results of a qualitative and a comparative analysis of some encyclopedic articles on painting techniques, which are published in the Italian and Spanish versions of the encyclopedia.
