This paper examines the relationship between cinema and nobility, the impact of his family history and traditions on his art in light of the theories of Bourdieu and Sartre. It addresses two questions: to what extent did Visconti’s aristocratic habitus condition his artistic activity and what degrees of freedom did he acquire that projected him beyond the confines of his class?
