Abstract

The Codex XV (13) of Verona Capitular Library was seriously damaged by the chemicals used in the nineteenth century by palaeographers. The early transcribers could not completely decipher the palimpsest’s scriptio prior, but modern multispectral imaging systems are now making it possible to read the manuscript more carefully, filling lacunae and correcting misreadings. Today, the method of acquisition and subsequent processing of digital gigapixel images (Multispectral Images RGB/UV/IR) permit to separate and to recover the different scriptures overlapping in the Veronese Code, reaching to a “digital restoration” of the precious manuscript. In this paper is analyzed the sheet 68v that contains Gaius Institutes 4. 62 and the classical list of iudicia bonae fidei, explaining how it is possible to reconstruct the original layer (scriptio prior).
