The Project 'Sfide Economiche Globali: Le Risposte della Politica_The Political Economy of Crisis and Change in the New Global Context' has originated from a series of informed conversations between International political economy (IPE) and Comparative political economy (CPE) scholars about the global economic crisis and political responses to it. The papers presented in the Panel ‘Back to the roots: L’International political economy e le virtù dell’inter-disciplinarietà nello studio delle crisi economiche sistemiche’, organized by E.Baroncelli and E.Baracani on the occasion of the XXV SISP Conference held in Florence (12-14 September 2013), explored the study of systemic crises from the standpoint of IPE and IR, particularly exploring models of interaction between domestic and systemic variables in the genesis of complex outcomes (network models, moderation models). The Conference ‘Political Responses to Global Economic Crises’, organized by E. Baroncelli, E. Baracani and R. Mulé and held at School of Political Sciences in Forlì on May 8th, 2014, widened the analytical focus, to include perspectives brought by CPE and to refine the Project’s overall theoretical framework. Finally, the Panel ‘The Political Economy of Systemic Shocks and Beyond: Where are we?’, organized by E. Baroncelli thanks to the support of Bruno Kessler Foundation‘s Research Center on International Politics and Conflict Resolution (FBK-CERPIC), in the context of the 2014 International SGRI Conference ‘Security and Cooperation in a Changing International System’, 27-28 June 2014, Trento, deepened the theoretical focus on specific evolutions of the ‘crisis complex’ to include international security and emerging economic dynamics (implications of Arab revolts and development issues, East-West Trade – in the area of EU-Asia PTAs- on cooperation patterns at the global level). In the book ‘Crisis and Change in the New Global Context’ (Baroncelli and Mulé, eds, Milan: Egea-Unibocconi, 2017), which regroups the individual research efforts conducted by the Authors, the Editors identify and discuss IPE and CPE methods to study sudden economic shocks, suggesting new avenues towards the elaboration of a political economy theory of system-wide crises. Abstract
