Between the beginning of 20th century and the First World War the geographer Olinto Marinelli (1876-1926) elaborated a theoretical regional model to define territorial unities by means of geographical characters synthetic description. Through this conception Marinelli inferred a specific acceptation of geographical border that was exploited also to reshape national political space. In the following year Marinelli’s work turned out to be essential in the field of academic research and education as well as in supporting Italian political ambitions at the peace conferences in the first post-war period.
