Buildings, infrastructures and cities – in short, the arrangement of our built environment – become one of the most crucial fields for the development of the Green Economy, not only because of the significant weight of the AEC industry in the global economy, but also because it offers the conditions essential for such development, by providing and preserving the functionality of all those facilities which are essential to human life: houses, schools, hospitals, offices, services, transportation and communication networks, buildings for production and distribution. For this reason, in early 2016, the General States of the Green Economy in their 5th edition entrusted the creation of a ‘‘Manifesto of the Green Economy for Architecture and Urban Planning’’ to a national group of experts, to guide the vision, research, path and actions of all the actors involved in interventions and transformations at many levels and in all the different sectors regarding processes, plans, projects and products, towards a better and more desirable ‘‘future city.’’ This Book aims to illustrate the major steps in the path followed by the national group of experts in a one-year effort, highlighting in particular the sequences in logic, method and content that the group has adopted in the scientific construction of a reference framework with the questions, purposes and strategies that have guided and substantiated the Manifesto.
