The chapter analyzes the politics of grieving in the massacres that occurred in the Mediterranean in the context of forced migration by boats. As a theoretical framework I bring together the concept of "grievability" by Judith Butler, as well as the concept of "differential inclusion" by Sandro Mezzadra and Brett Neilson. By drawing on a semiotic perspective, I analyze two case studies: the Kater I Rades, an Albanian boat that sank in the Strait of Otranto, after a collision with an Italian military naval vessel in 1997, and the shipwrecks in Lampedusa on October 3 and 11, 2013.

Abstract
The chapter analyzes the politics of grieving in the massacres that occurred in the Mediterranean in the context of forced migration by boats. As a theoretical framework I bring together the concept of "grievability" by Judith Butler, as well as the concept of "differential inclusion" by Sandro Mezzadra and Brett Neilson. By drawing on a semiotic perspective, I analyze two case studies: the Kater I Rades, an Albanian boat that sank in the Strait of Otranto, after a collision with an Italian military naval vessel in 1997, and the shipwrecks in Lampedusa on October 3 and 11, 2013.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
