Language lessons of will be held by Professor S. Mirzoev (Academy of Sciences of Tadžikistan), who is a Jaγnobī motherlanguage. The Jaγnobī is an east-Iranian language which unfortunately is not teached in any European or American University, but is of basic importance for the Iranistic and Indoeuropean studies. The Jaγnobīs live in a high mountain valley in Tadžikistan, which is very difficult to reach: the Jaγnobīs lived for centuries in an isolation probably contributing to keep their peculiarities both in language and folklore. Today there about 12.500 Jaγnobīs and they have a peculiar language very significant for Middle-Iranian and Sogdian studies. This Summer School offers a full immertion course (about 60 hs of lessons), held in Russian with an Italian and English translation. The aim of the course is to give to students a basic knowledge of the Jaγnobī language, which will be tested after the end of the lessons through a written test.
