The article deals with the critical examination of the tradition behind the period of cosmic conflagration (1468 years) attributed to the end of the world in the Manichaean literature. The different interpretations advanced in the past scholarly literature have been carefully analyzed, and a full conspectus of the different Manichaean sources presented and discussed. The final figure of 1468 years was obtained by addying the number of years recurring in a so-called Sothiac cycle 1461, plus 7 years more, which corresponded to the period of the final week of the world in some apocalyptic traditions, widespread in the first centuries of the Vulgar Era among Gnostic communities, Christians and Jews.

Abstract
The article deals with the critical examination of the tradition behind the period of cosmic conflagration (1468 years) attributed to the end of the world in the Manichaean literature. The different interpretations advanced in the past scholarly literature have been carefully analyzed, and a full conspectus of the different Manichaean sources presented and discussed. The final figure of 1468 years was obtained by addying the number of years recurring in a so-called Sothiac cycle 1461, plus 7 years more, which corresponded to the period of the final week of the world in some apocalyptic traditions, widespread in the first centuries of the Vulgar Era among Gnostic communities, Christians and Jews.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
