Abstract: 1655 was a busy year for Michele Morosini, Venetian ambassador. The international framework, drawn by the Treaties of Westphalia, and the internal affairs required a special responsibility for the Republic of Venice, committed to defend their possessions in the Mediterranean Turkish by the advance. Morosini had already gained experience as ambassador to the French court, which was becoming the main of Europe and was ruled by the young Louis XIV, under the careful guidance of Cardinal Mazarin. In such a situation and trusting in his previous experience, the Senate Morosini Veneto instructed to process and prepare an information supplement on the policy direction. Since such policies observations was drawn wide Relatione, found in the Archives of the State of Venice. The report, interesting testimony of the activities of a diplomat and, at the same time, a reflection of the consciousness of a century marked by war and peace, alliances and divisions, old and new national hegemonies, is published for the first time in this volume.

Il 1655 fu un anno intenso per Michele Morosini, ambasciatore veneto. Il quadro internazionale, disegnato dai trattati di Vestfalia, e le vicende interne richiedevano una particolare responsabilità per la Serenissima Repubblica di Venezia, impegnata nel difendere i propri possedimenti nel Mediterraneo dall’avanzata turca. Morosini aveva già maturato esperienza come ambasciatore presso la corte francese, che stava diventando la principale d’Europa ed era retta dal giovanissimo Luigi XIV, sotto l’attenta guida del cardinale Mazzarino. In tale congiuntura e confidando nella sua pregressa esperienza, il Senato Veneto incaricò Morosini di elaborare e redigere un supplemento informativo sugli orientamenti politici del momento. Da tali osservazioni politiche fu stilata un’ampia Relatione, ritrovata nell’Archivio di Stato di Venezia. La relazione, interessante testimonianza delle attività di un diplomatico e, al contempo, riflesso della coscienza di un secolo segnato da guerre e paci, alleanze e divisioni, vecchie e nuove egemonie nazionali, viene pubblicata per la prima volta in questo volume.
