Abstract

(Camillo Neri) Four words: a) persons (not theories, empirical approach, adaptability of the instruments to needs and not vice versa); b) Unicode (ie. unicuique suum: Enough with ‘false equations’!); c) scripting (adapting the existing is better than creating ex nihilo); d) best practices (what you experience for those who have special needs can serve the needs of others, and the needs of all). (Silvia Gianferrari) Cognitive Neuropsychology is dyslexia’s and specific learning disorders’ background: it means that schools are developing strategies to guarantee the success of the learning processes of involved students. Computer resources are the countervailing instruments for their reading skills, otherwise compromised. Dedicated software’s visual and graphic effects recall and maintain attention on selected textual elements; coincidental speech synthesis makes reading and learning processes easier and stronger. That allows students’ autonomous access to the written page. E-books’ acoustic and multimedia accessibility is a resource for blind, but also for dyslexic people and students: bilingual ancient Greek speech synthesis developed by Progetto Leggere (supervised by University of Bologna’s Department of Classic Philology and Italian Studies) runs on blinds’ screen readers and dyslexics’ readers too. It allows them to study classical literature and to get a liberal education.
