This is an analysis of the main theoretical approaches to the subject “consumption and modern city” aimed at a building up a methodological framework for a history of the relationship between city, commercialisation and consumption. This is followed by a wide ranging historical investigation of urban commercialisation processes and urban culture of consumption since 19th century till the late 20th century.
