The article is devoted to exploring the relationship between Dante and the theory of modistic speculative grammar, as it was introduced in to the field of Dante's studies by Maria Corti in 1981 (Dante a un nuovo crocevia). According to Corti, Dante did participate in Modism, through the mediation of Gentilis of Cingoli, who taught in Bologna. However, Gentilis could non be assigned the role of mediator between Dante and Boethius of Dacia. The article, taking advantage of new edited and unedited documents, discusses the roots of Corti's interpretation, heavily influenced by the Chomskian approach to linguistics and its history.

Abstract
The article is devoted to exploring the relationship between Dante and the theory of modistic speculative grammar, as it was introduced in to the field of Dante's studies by Maria Corti in 1981 (Dante a un nuovo crocevia). According to Corti, Dante did participate in Modism, through the mediation of Gentilis of Cingoli, who taught in Bologna. However, Gentilis could non be assigned the role of mediator between Dante and Boethius of Dacia. The article, taking advantage of new edited and unedited documents, discusses the roots of Corti's interpretation, heavily influenced by the Chomskian approach to linguistics and its history.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
