Many proverbs and sentences are present in the Fables of Phaedrus. Some fables are based on proverbs, otherwise there is a quotation of an unessential proverb: in the fi rst case sometimes the fable is traditional, sometimes completely new. Sentences are often quoted in the fi rst verse, where the memory of a particular topos is very important. Finally, it is very important that some phaedrian expressions (like, for example, «Nondum matura est») became very famous and similar to proverbs.
