After the success of TEMPUS PROJECT: “Multidisciplinary Studies of Design in Mechanical Engineering”, the 1st edition of the MS.DESIGN Symposium was organized as a valid occasion for a deep comparison between different models and approaches to Design and Engineering. The purpose of this Symposium is the same that funded the ending Tempus Project: to provide “a Common Area for Industrial Designers”, a social and scientific environment to researchers, engineers, artists and students in the field of Industrial Design to present and discuss the current state of their work and to evaluate the impact of the discipline on the scientific development and modern organisation of the industrial world. Personal knowledge and common life experiences are a great added value for the young and less young generations in order to strength the spirit of incoming epochal enlargement of new Nations in the European Union. In the present occasion, since the very short time available for the congress, only a limited number of papers was collected, considered to be yet reasonable, as long as it guarantees time for a proper presentation and discussion. For this reason, in order to allow time to each of the participants, all papers will be given poster format, but preceded by an oral presentation. During the Symposium several initiatives (together with interesting technical visits to research centre and industrial company) are foreseen to give to the guests knowledge of the human and physical environment of this interesting area of Italy. We would like to express our best wishes for the success of this meeting and we would also like to thank all those who support the initiative, especially the international boarding committee of the MS.Design Tempus Project and all our tireless collaborators.
