Despite the development opportunity brought by tourism, Gorée’s territorial and social problems have worsened in the last decades, mainly as a consequence of bad governance, while its local population has been unable to improve its living conditions through this activity. Gorée tourist development would benefit greatly from a greater connection to the UNESCO Slave Route.
