The European air transport system is undergoing significant modifications due to the liberalisation process, the technological innovation and the growth of demand for air services. In this framework, the role of the Regulator of a regional airport system is to govern airport infrastructures, so that operational, economic and environmental performances are optimised. The decisional process requires that mathematical models are calibrated in order to simulate the effects of the evolution of the air transport system in different scenarios. In November 2004, a national research project (PRIN) was financed to define guidelines for planning the development of Italian regional airports. In this conference, the main results of the project are presented and major international experts illustrate their point of view.

Abstract
The European air transport system is undergoing significant modifications due to the liberalisation process, the technological innovation and the growth of demand for air services. In this framework, the role of the Regulator of a regional airport system is to govern airport infrastructures, so that operational, economic and environmental performances are optimised. The decisional process requires that mathematical models are calibrated in order to simulate the effects of the evolution of the air transport system in different scenarios. In November 2004, a national research project (PRIN) was financed to define guidelines for planning the development of Italian regional airports. In this conference, the main results of the project are presented and major international experts illustrate their point of view.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
