Basil (Ocimum basilicum) is known for the aromatic properties and its essential oil is used both for food and fragrance industries. Alfalfa mosia virus (AMV) infects worldwilde basil crops. The essential oil from sweet basil healthy and naturally infected by AMV has been analyzed by GC/GC-MS system. The quality of the oil from infected plants was severely altered with a great increase in both monoterpenes and phenylpropanoids components.
