This chapter analyses the complex interplay between the restructuring of the DS party and the transformation of the Italian political system from 1991 onwards. We find that the main changes concern the structure of the party organization, marked by a process of growing factionalization and a policy shift towards the centre of the ideological space. This chapter is part of a wider comparative project about party change in Southern Europe.
