Never before has ‘culture’ been quite such an important area of concern within sociology in a wide range of national, international and transnational contexts. The journal is both a product of those developments, and is also intended to meet the scholarly needs and interests created by, and expressed through, them. Edited by three leading cultural sociologists (David Inglis, Andrew Blaikie and Robin Wagner-Pacifici), the journal includes in the editorial and international advisory boards many of the most distinguished scholars in the field from a range of countries. Although the journal is primarily administratively located in the UK, 'Cultural Sociology' is not just an Anglo-American enterprise, but a truly ‘global’ journal, fit for purpose in complex globalizing social and cultural conditions, in that its editorial policy is not based on parochial, nationally- (or regionally-) based conceptions of cultural sociology. Instead, the journal is run as a cosmopolitan space in which a plurality of voices is heard and attended to. The journal is an ideal vehicle for encouraging forms of rapprochement between different sorts of sociological conceptualization and investigation from around the planet. Pier Paolo Giglioli is member of the International Advisory Board.
