The essay traces the origins in Governmental Polish circles of a plan to settle around one milion of Polish Jews in the French colony of Madagascar. The plan was never realized bu its implication both on the international arena and in Poland were serious. The colonial propaganda which accompanied the plan damaged the image og Poland in British and American opinion. At home it served to biuld the idea of Poland as a great power.
