This chapter presents a review of theoretical perspectives on civic and political participation based on the disciplines of social psychology and community psychology. The aim is not to provide an exhaustive review of the literature, but to focus on some theoretical models that we think can provide useful contributions to the investigation of the antecedents and psychological processes influencing individual and collective engagement and participation.
