The harmonisation of the specialised terminology of the Alpine Convention in the four official languages of this international agreement posed several terminological challenges, also as far as the definition of the data categories to be contained in the dedicated terminology data base is concerned. The present article discusses the problems faced and the specific limits of ISO standard 12620 concerning the data element ‘note’.
