The objective of the proposed project is to create a joint curriculum between the partner institutions that focuses on the study of nationalism, transnationalism and migration. The project includes the exchange of teaching staff as well as a total number of 54 students equally divided between Canadian and European partner institutions who will study abroad. The project is conceived according to an interdisciplinary methodology, aiming to bring together scholars and students from the social sciences and the humanities (literature, arts, history, cultural studies, ethnomusicology, anthropology, European and Mediterranean studies). The project aims to create a common transfer system between partner institutions and will produce and deliver a new interdisciplinary course, worth 10 ECTS, on the study of nationalism, transnationalism and migration composed of modules developed by the members of the project team. The course modules will also be made available through a website and/or CD ROM which contains the syllabuses and resources for teaching courses specified within the project. The start date of the project is 1 November 2005; activities will end on 31 October 2008 The European consortium institutions are: University of Bologna (European Coordinator); University of Athens; University of Malta. The Canadian consortium institutions: University of Prince Edward Island; York University Toronto; Trent University. Partner Institutions envisage two meetings of the teaching staff per year, (one on the occasion of the annual EU/Canada/US consortia conference and the other in one of the partner institutions. First year: University of Prince Edward Island; second year: University of Malta; third year: University of Bologna). In the second year and in the third year, partner institutions will encourage and support students mobility: students will be offered the opportunity to study abroad for a term, and encouraged to join virtual class for an additional month.
