The volume contains the papers submitted for applying to the AUTeC Award 2014. The award was established in 2005 and it has been appointed annually to a Ph.D. thesis defended in the year in one Italian Doctoral Course and judged particularly significant in the fields pertaining to the scientific sector ICAR/06 (Surveying and Mapping). Each candidate summarizes in one paper the main points of its research. The articles are judged by a Commission composed by the current members of the AUTeC Executive Board. In 2014, the Commission was composed by Professors Ludovico Biagi from the Polytechnic of Milan, Ambrogio Manzino from the Polytechnic of Turin, Fabio Radicioni from the University of Perugia, Salvatore Troisi from the University of Naples Parthenope, Grazia Tucci from the University of Florence, Antonio Vettore from the University of Padua. Dr. Ciro Gioia, from the Doctoral Course in "Geodetic and Topographic Sciences" at the University of Naples Parthenope, was awarded the AUTeC Award 2014 for his thesis entitled "GNSS Navigation in Difficult Environments: Hybridization and Reliability". The AUTeC Award and the publication of the papers in a book want to be a recognition of the academics from the ICAR/06 sector for the work of these young researchers and a motivation to continue their study.
