The statement that higher education can ground professional formation of graduates and shape the vision of the labour market requirements, giving opportunities to capitalize the acquired knowledge is the core for the present paper. The paper’s starting point is the concept of professionalization of higher education. Existing mechanisms of specialisation for the graduate students’ professional formation, as well as for young professionals. Apart from the analysis of the existing specialization mechanisms (on the example of the Belarusian State University), the paper come up with recommendations on how to strengthen connections between higher education system and labour market for the students’ employability and improve already existing ties. Moreover, the paper looks at professionalization from prospective of the university professors’ competences and actuality of the taught courses.
