The paper aims to give a brief introduction to Hong Kong environmental law but also to illustrate how the region is dealing with the environmental issue and its response to the climate change. The first part of the paper focuses on the domestic background: under the Basic Law, which provides the constitutional basis upon which the SAR enjoys independence from the Mainland, Honk Kong is allowed to formulate its own policies related to the protection of the environment. The second part of the paper analyses the international environmental law applicable to the region and, specifically, the role of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change. Indeed, after the return to the Chinese sovereignty, the Convention on Climate Change was extended to the Special Administrative Region.

Abstract
The paper aims to give a brief introduction to Hong Kong environmental law but also to illustrate how the region is dealing with the environmental issue and its response to the climate change. The first part of the paper focuses on the domestic background: under the Basic Law, which provides the constitutional basis upon which the SAR enjoys independence from the Mainland, Honk Kong is allowed to formulate its own policies related to the protection of the environment. The second part of the paper analyses the international environmental law applicable to the region and, specifically, the role of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change. Indeed, after the return to the Chinese sovereignty, the Convention on Climate Change was extended to the Special Administrative Region.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
