Cancer Cell & Microenvironment is an open access, peer-reviewed, online journal that encompasses all basic and translational aspects of cancer cell and associated microenvironment. The communication between cancer cells and the surrounding cells—the microenvironment—helps drive the process of cancer progression. So going from normal to benign, benign to malignant, malignant to metastatic is driven not just by what's happening inside the cancer cell itself but by what's happening around it. Therefore, to fully understand cancer development and progression, a deeper knowledge of the cross-talk between cancer cells and their microenvironment and the interactions between cancer cells and cancer stem cells is needed. A better understanding of how the cancer environment affects cancer progression should provide new targets for the isolation and destruction of cancer cells via interference with the complex crosstalk established between cancer cells, host cells, and their surrounding extracellular matrix.
