While there is no doubt that the XX century was characterized by the rise of democracy worldwide, in the past few years this spread has come to a halt and there have been signs of democracy erosion, which made some scholars starting to question the worldwide applicability of this model of government. This chapter presents the main conclusions of the empirical investigation of the existence and attractiveness of the alternative models of government represented by Russia, China and Iran.
