Parasuicide represents a significant cost to the individual, the health services, and to society at large. Starting from 1981 overall psychiatric consultations (M 42.3%) on year 2000, our sample consisted of 149 consecutive parasuicidal cases living in the Health District of Bologna (M 36.9%). Among them, 83.2% were monitored for variables relating to emergency room, general hospital inpatient care, general hospital outpatient care, psychiatric inpatient care, over the period 2000-2005. All of cases were monitored for possible death and its motivation matching up data from clinical versus demographic database. Results. Among several findings, in particular a repetition rate of 18.8% was found involving one or more subsequent gestures by 5 yrs., while14.1% of cases died for any reason (including a number of complete suicides).
