The chapter presents the rationale behind the conception of the Prosopography of Anglo-Saxon England Project, first assessing its importance within historiographical views of the English Early Middle Ages and then showing the characteristics of the construction, development and use of the relational database which is the main output of the Project itself. Special attention is given to the fact that this project is not just about names (as traditional prosopography has sometimes been) but more generally about people.

Abstract
The chapter presents the rationale behind the conception of the Prosopography of Anglo-Saxon England Project, first assessing its importance within historiographical views of the English Early Middle Ages and then showing the characteristics of the construction, development and use of the relational database which is the main output of the Project itself. Special attention is given to the fact that this project is not just about names (as traditional prosopography has sometimes been) but more generally about people.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
