The author attracts scholarly attention on the remarkable changes recently introduced in the Tajik legislation not only about the special position definitively attributed to Tajik with respect to Russian, but mostly about the recognition of the languages of the Pamir peoples and mainly of the Yaghnobis. According to the Constitution of the Republic of Tajikistan (Dushanbe 1994), the Article 2 establishes: “The State Language of Tajikistan is Tajik. Russian is a language of inter-ethnic communication. All nations and peoples residing on the territory of the Republic have the right to use freely their native languages”. The role and importance of Russian has been recently reduced after the ratification of the Law of the Republic of Tajikistan “About the State Language of the Republic of Tajikistan”.
