Forecasts at the regional level are a necessary complement to forecasts at the national level and, among other things, enable policymakers to allocate public expenditure between regions more efficiently. The goal of this special issue is to bring together methodological and empirical short papers focusing on predicting economic and social variables at the level of small administrative units.
