The scientific goal of the project is to provide a geodetical and geophysical detailed framework of observations necessary for a numerical modeling for deep ice coring sites and then to a better understanding of ice samples. In particular, the project deals with a new set of geodetic (GNSS) and geophysical (GPR-RES) measurements, which will be used, together with data collected over the years, as reference frame for the description of the dynamics of glacial flows at the main deep coring sites where PNRA and IPEV were involved together. In particular, the project will deal with EPICA and TALDICE projects, because they are particularly favorable to support a numerical modeling. These sites in fact have two advantages: the presence of geodetic networks for the control of deformation, with reference measurements carried out in 1996 and the presence of a set of geophysical surveys carried out both for the exploration of the site, and carried out in the borehole.
